WELCOME to the website for the Yelverton & District Local History Society.

2024

Thank you to everyone who supported our events in 2023. Our new programme for 2024 is now complete with a very “localised” series of talks, including 6 new speakers who have not visited us before. Details are on the 2024 Events Page. We hope you will like the programme and continue to support us in 2024.

MEMBERSHIPS 2024 are now open…

We have now welcomed Claire Fryer to our committee taking up the important post of Membership Secretary and all communications regarding membership renewals should be addressed accordingly. We say a big thank you to Peter Snopek who has stood down after several years of loyal service.

MEMBERSHIP FEES:

Forms are also available at our talks and fees for 2024 are only £8 per member which entitles you to free entry to all our events. Donations and new members always welcomed.

The Society was formed over forty years ago, in 1982, by a group of people who believed there was a need to study the fascinating history of the villages nestling on the Yelverton side of Dartmoor, and to make an effort to record as much of that history as possible while the places existed free of development and the people remembered the past.

Each month (except December) we invite a speaker to present a talk on their own specialist subject. During the Summer months, we run outdoor events with a visit to a place or location of interest for a tour or guided walk. Details on membership etc are on the ‘About’ page.
